Nevada DMV FAQ
Nevada DMV Questions, Answered
Can someone else register my car for me in Nevada?
Yes. The Nevada DMV allows a third party to register a vehicle on your behalf with an Application for Vehicle Registration (VP 222) signed by the owner, or a notarized Power of Attorney (VP 136). That is how Front Door handles your transaction without you visiting a DMV office.
How long do I have to register my car after moving to Nevada?
The Nevada DMV requires new residents to register their vehicle within 30 days, or before any movement permit expires. You need a movement permit and insurance to drive an unregistered vehicle on public streets.
Do I need a smog check to register my car in Las Vegas?
In Clark County, most gasoline vehicles (and diesels up to 14,000 lbs GVWR), model year 1968 or newer, need an emissions test once they are past their first three registrations. New vehicles, new hybrids for their first five model years, electric vehicles, motorcycles and heavier diesels are exempt. Tests are valid for 90 days.
Does an out-of-state vehicle need a VIN inspection in Nevada?
Yes. A Vehicle Inspection Certificate (VP 015) is required for every vehicle that has never been registered or titled in Nevada. Front Door coordinates the inspection for you.
What if my Nevada registration is already expired?
Nevada allows renewal up to 18 months after expiration, with late fees added automatically. To drive the vehicle legally before it is renewed, you need a movement permit — we can get one for you.
Is Front Door DMV Services part of the Nevada DMV?
No. Front Door DMV Services is a private DMV concierge company and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Nevada DMV. DMV fees are separate from our service fees. We also do not issue or renew driver’s licenses or state IDs, or provide driving tests.
Notice to Customers: We do NOT issue or renew driver's licenses or state IDs, and we do NOT provide driving tests. Front Door DMV Services handles vehicle registration, titles, VIN coordination, moving permits and commercial motor carrier work.
